7th Meeting of the Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities
On 23 - 24 May 2005, the 7th meeting of the Group of the Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities was held in Smolenice (Slovak Republic). The topics discussed during the meeting focused on the following issues: processing of biometric data (modern technologies in practice), administrative and judicial proceedings and disclosure of information, scope of use of personal identification number, application of standards for security of information systems and processing of personal data for statistical purposes.
The main outcome of the meeting was the adoption of a Declaration on Future Cooperation to Ensure an Adequate Level of Data Protection in the state of the Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Authorities and to Promote Awareness of Data Protection Issues among Citizens and Institutions. The members also supported the proposal to establish 28 January as Data Protection Day.
